Technology is changing everything for the better around us – tasks, chores, work all take half the time to do as they used to. Things that used to be painful to accomplish seem more painless. So why wouldn’t the same principle apply to technological advances in plastic surgery? Getting fat removed from the body used to be… harder. Not anymore. CoolSculpting has changed how fat is removed for the better.
What Is CoolSculpting?
It’s a new, innovative treatment that uses Cryolipolysis. Cryolipolysis is a technique where extremely cold temperatures destroy layers of fat cells. What’s so astonishing about that is, during this treatment, the surrounding healthy tissues remain unaffected.
During the procedure, two CoolSculpting paddles are placed on both sides of the area to be treated. Then using light suction, the applicators gently pull up the skin. They stay there and will then chill the areas for one hour.
The treatments are not painful and require no anesthesia. Once the procedure begins, a deep cool and mild pulling sensation will occur – but this will stop after the area numbs, which takes only a few minutes.
How Is the Recovery?
After the procedure, you may return to all normal activities: work, school – even exercise! There will be some mild redness and swelling, initially — and some bruising, itching, and tenderness may occur — but this all resolves after several weeks.
How Much Reduction Will There Be?
Over the weeks following the procedure, your body will naturally metabolize those cells that were frozen, leaving a 25-30 percent reduction in fatty tissue – but that’s once the area has completely healed.
Where Can CoolSculpting Be Used?
Pretty much everywhere you want it to! But to be specific, these are the areas that can be treated: the abdomen, flanks, upper and lower back, arms, and male breasts. All these areas can be targeted because, there are three different sized applicators, each one able to precisely target these individual areas.
Two areas can even be treated at the same time — so you can get both upper arms or both flanks done simultaneously! This lessens the treatment time by half.
How to Know You’re Ready?
Ideally, candidates should be in relatively good health and have stubborn fat in the places mentioned above. You shouldn’t be using CoolSculpting as a quick fix – this isn’t an alternative to dieting. But after exercise and diet, if there are still isolated areas of fat, then you’re the right fit.
If you’re still unsure, go ahead and schedule the consultation with Dr. Vitenas.
